Teddy Bear Chair

Remember these chairsmade from a lot of plushy toys ? From my perspective those chairs wasn’t a bright idea, but for all teddy bear loves here’s something that maybe you’ll like more. To bad that the teddy bear is so sad, or tired …anyway .. would you like a chair like this ? - This chair was Designed for a solo exhebition at the Agata Gallery, Stockholm, 2001.

Bookman Is On The Case

Remember that Seinfeld episode where Jerry’s being harassed by uber-diligent library cop, Lieutenant Bookman over an overdue book? Well, Bookman’s not only still ON the case, he IS the case: this anthropomorphic shelving unit can turn any thin, single and neat joy-boy into the ideal well-read man.

Stool, Bookshelf, Table

feltstoolPark your butt on it or stow some books; you got to hand it to these wonderful designers for addressing many issues at one go. For example, if you have space crunch, then this impromptu bookshelf stool is handy. Notice how the deep U-s hold thick fat books comfortably! You like modular, multifunctional stuff; check the box!
Using bending technique for molding the 8 layers of industrial gray felt (stuck with epoxy resin) and 2 layers of veneer, this piece could add a third dimension to it….use it as a table!

Fly Shelf with a Projection Screen Integrated

Fly Shelfis more than a simple shelf, is a multi functional piece of furniture. Fly Shelf is designed by Matteo Ragni and you can find it here. For those who want to watch a movie, this shelf has a projection screen integrated, and is a great piece of furniture for small places, where you have to be limited with everything. Very space friendly and useful if you’ve got a projector based home theatre system in place.

A Space Saving Murphy Bed for Your Pet

This handsome piece of furniture looks like a wall cabinet but is actually a space-saving Murphy bed for your pet. Unlike regular pet beds, this one stays out of sight until bedtime ! Personally when I’m looking at this piece of furniture I see Paris Hilton’s Chihuahua, I don’t know why, but I think that animals don’t need special furniture for them. Anyway I’ve posted this piece because it look really cool, and some of my readers might think that their pet deserve a piece of furniture like this.

Folding Flat Seat

foldingstoolIn the future, everything will be flat. Did you know? Everything will fold down into nothing. Also there will be no need for dust covers because we’ll have dust-repellant paper! But we’ll still need wood. And we can replenish our wood supply with trees. And we can replenish our flat stool supply with wood. Serdar Sişman’s made us a flat stool that’s made entirely of wood. Flat wood. Savvy?

The neat thing about this particular folding stool is that it can be folded down into a relatively flat bit of wood. It’s not thin as a piece of paper, but you can put your drinks on it. Then there’s the fact that you can make this particular stool out of a single tablet of wood, so says Serdar Sişman.

What we need now is rapid-prototyping machines that cut wood!

Solitaire Chair

The Solitaire Chairis designed by Alfredo Haberli, and is an upholstered chair with an organic shape that is designed in one piece. Alfredo Haberli thought that rather than design a chair and then designing a table to go with it, he designed the Solitaire, which is both at the same time. One of Solitaire’s armrests is like an intergral tabletop, ideal for reading, writing, or for use as a side table. I would recommend a chair like this to any modern company. In conclusion Solitaire is a low chair with a small table for writing, reading, or eating.

Coast To Coast Bookcase

When you’re a famous artist like Ron Arad, you can get away with calling an America-shaped bookcase anything you want. Even, say, “Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends”. It doesn’t have to make sense (though it’s likely to make Arad dollars), it just has to look good. And so it does.

Yin Yang Bookcase

As solid and strong as the above Yin Yang Bookcase may look, in truth it’s made of cardboard – and you can make one too! Eric Guiomar and the gang at Instructables provides complete plans that will allow anyone to add a little balance to their home environment while impressing the hell out of their friends in the process.

Town House Cupboard

If you would like a really unique cupboard I can assure you that the Town House Cupboardis something that will impress anyone. It is built in beech and mahogany and comes in 2 parts, the arched base and the cupboard top. It features an inlaid parquetry pattern on the floor of the base, and is crowned with an intricate balustrade on the top. This particular cupboard is made to stand against a wall, and has a paneled back, but this type of design could easily be built as a free-standing piece with all 4 facades the same.

Boxing Glove Chair

The Boxing Glove Chairis a comfortable piece of furniture shaped as you can see as a boxing glove. I’m sure that boxing or kick boxing fans would like to have a chair like this while they are watching a boxing match. It looks good, is comfortable, and if you favourite fighter is not doing good you can throw a few punches to this glove. The Boxer’s Chair comes in a cream and red “boxer feel” faux leather upholstery.

Scaffold Bookcase

These modular scaffold bookcases by Maria Yasko can be used to store much more than books. Made from Corian, a tough but light synthetic material often used to make countertops, Yasko’s pieces come in a variety of appealing colors. How they’re connected depends on the mood of the owner with the only rule being “the more, the merrier”.

Illumi-Knob Lights Your Way

Think doorknobs are the epitome of low-tech? Think again: the Illumi-Knob may even be smarter than you! Well, at least in the middle of the night when you’re stumbling around the bedroom searching for the knob of the bedroom door. You can’t see the knob but the knob senses you, thanks to a futuristic passive infra-red sensor that can detect movement within 10 feet. Once the knob knows you’re coming (how’s that for scary?), a pair of LED rings softly light up, guiding you to the exit. Each Illumi-Knob holds 3 AAA batteries to power the sensor and its modernistic design acts to turn any standard doorknob into an easy to grasp lever.

Green Sink Above the Stink

The “Profile™ 5 with Integrated Hand Basin by Caroma looks like a weird Japanese toilet, acts like a weird Japanese toilet, yet it hails from (of all places) Australia. The Profile is a green toilet… well, it’s white, but it’s green. After one flushes, the tank is filled from the faucet mounted atop the tank. Scrub up while you can – it’s not a huge tank and you don’t want to be caught short. Would a tolet like the Profile work in the USA? Perhaps… but before worrying about hand-washing how about remembering to flush?

A Twist on the Boring Bare Bulb

Bare bulbs are not exactly the height of lighting design, but this clever twist turns that idea on its head. A second working socket allows the bulb to be inserted in various ways to a variety of fixtures. It’s minimalist, but fun – the kind of fixture that makes you look twice.

Table Transformed From A Picture Frame

Verena Lang the designer of this smart picture framehad an original idea when she made this product. Hanging on the wall, it looks as if you are displaying a beautiful photograph in a unique picture frame. As the diagonal bar is opened up, we instantly are provided with a nice and sturdy table. Because the picture is showed underneath while in a table manner, your picture won’t be hurt when the foldable table will be unfolded. So if you have little space in your home, you can have a pice of art on the wall to impress your visitors, and also a table when you are just by yourself.

Real 3D Table

stereovision3
stereovision2
Wait a second… isn’t that already 3D? Behold the devastating addition of 4 legs to an already-4-legged-table. Brutality! Redundancy! So many extra legs! And what’s the deal with this red and blue here? It’s a “Stereovision Table,” and it’s made for those with a sense of irony in technology. But is it the same sort of deal as using a rotary phone? Or is it just silly?

My mother and father had a rotary phone my whole life. My mother got it for cheap through a deal with a person at her workplace (she worked at the telephone company, imagine that.) It was always a little bit of extra work waiting for the wheel to turn for each number, but there it was, an enjoyable trip back to a more vintage time.

Here we have some wild optics tricks that span back centuries. The red and blue is a reference to the 3D glasses technology that’s lasted for years and years. Now it’s done! (Did you go see the movie BOLT in 3D? They used some other crazy glasses for it.)

So where’s that leave us?

With this dastardly 3D table, just chortling at us.

Great Box Chair

Box-Chair
Cool, this Box Chair, designed by Eiry Rock. This piece offers seating for both adult and child, whilst also acting as a seat and play surface for a child. This product is a blatant expression of how one form is removed from another leaving a negative space in its absence.

Polar Bear Shelf

The Polar Bear Shelfis a bookshelf that is shaped like a polar bear. I think that this is a really wired design for a piece of furniture, but some animal lovers might love this idea. The shelf is designed and manufactured by Ibride- a site that is cool but, difficult to navigate if you’re in a hurry. This shelf has big dimensions just like a polar bear and is big enough so you can put inside everytrhing you want : boobs, CD, DVD, any objects.

Ultramodern Steel Kitchen Design Concept

Just like impractical runway fashion is often more about art than clothing, some furniture design puts form over function in over-the-top designs meant to dazzle. But even if they won’t be appearing in real kitchens any time soon, Stratocucine’s high-end steel kitchen designs highlight the best of what minimalism can be: clean, simple and soothing.

Embrace Lounge

At a first glance the embrace loungedoesn’t look to impressive, is looking like something very simple, but the embrace lounge has a hidden, body-shaped curve in it, allowing you to feel the comfort of a warm embrace. This piece was inspired by the need for a hug while away from home. The embrace lounge was designed by Tanya Aguiniga’s, a Los Angeles based furniture designer/maker raised inTijuana, Mexico. Her work encourages users to reconsider the objects they use on a daily basis by creating work that explores an objects’ unseen aspect, such as half chairs that rely on the wall to function and whose image is only complete as its shadow is cast upon the wall.

The Platzhalter Bookcase

The Platzhalter bookshelf has a split personality, which happens to be a good thing. Possibly inspired by that guy everyone knows whose bookcases are so full tomes can be neither stored nor withdrawn, the Platzhalter bookshelf splits down the middle providing about 30% more storage space. Of course, “that guy” will just overstuff it again, but at least someone’s making an effort.

This amazing bunk bed can be hidden into the wall or you can opt to leave one unfolded to pull double duty as a couch.

Outdoor Furniture - Ultimate Beach Chair

The Ostrich 3 in 1 Chair is a very clever piece of outdoor furniture. 3 in 1 Furniture

Since Freshome started we presented a lot of interesting pieces of multi functional furniture, and today here is a new piece that I want to add at the collection. This new piece is called “One To Three For Five (Seconds)” and is designed by John Nouanesing. This piece is a white square box, that a first look might look like a table, but you can easily transform it in five seconds from one box into three pieces of furniture, two chairs and a table. The design is creative and when is not used it could save some space.

Wooden Chair with a Secret Drawer

Moheli Wooden Chairwith drawer is an interesting idea, and is a great piece of furniture especially if you want a piece of furniture with secret drawers or compartments. The secret drawer that is placed under the chair can be used to hide your personal belongings from your guests eyes and also have them readily available at your fingertips when your need them. Just don’t place heavy objects is this drawer, because if you’ll have to move the chair then you’ll have troubles with the extra weight.

The Radiator Chair: Steam Heat Seat

“Made from 80 year old radiators, this chair is surprisingly comfortable.” That just may be the case, since the Radiator Chair looks unsurprisingly UNcomfortable. It also looks somewhat out of place among the traditionally styled offerings at the Barrymore Furniture Galleries in Toronto… until you glance at the $1,430 written on the price tag. The Radiator Chair comes with an optional companion piece: a $1,200 end table that sports a red valve handle on one front leg. Don’t turn it, whatever you do!

Muti Functional Armchair

At Freshome we really enjoy furniture that can twist, bend or turn, to get a new shape for different purposes. Take the Huggy armchairfor example. Normally it has a mattress that is wrapped inside a small cylindrical wooden base, like the ice cream in a cone, to form a 77 x 60 x 60 cm comfortable armchair. However if you need to come up with a solution, if your friends decided to stay overnight, you can change it into an extra bed. Just unscrew the base and roll the mattress on the floor, you’ll have a 190 x 120 cm perfect bed.
The Huggy armchair can even be changed into a small table. Turn the base upside-down and voila, you have a 60 cm diameter, 40 cm height and 12 cm thick, useful night table. It shouldn’t be very expensive and could easily be done by yourself if you have some time to kill.

Fold-Out Table is Kitchen Island & Work Surface in One

Especially when entertaining, it can seem as if there’s never enough space in the kitchen. That’s where fold-out work surfaces really come in handy, as in this elegant white kitchen island. It starts out as a simple box, but once opened, it reveals plenty of cooking and cutting surfaces, storage space and sinks.

Sit Challenge: The Stick Chair

The Stick Chair comes to us courtesy of Carlo Volf of Danish design firm Volfdesign, though from the looks of it “courtesy” isn’t one of Volf’s better qualities. It’s doubtful he has a soft spot for comfort either, since YOUR soft spot will never forgive you for sitting in this chair. Designed for the 2005 Carpenter’s Autumn Exhibition, “Stick”, as Volf calls it, will definitely stick it to you… where the sun don’t shine.
